DO YOUR EXTERIOR WALLS NEED INSULATION?

Photo of a wall in new building

Before considering wall insulation, which can be tricky to install in finished homes, it’s a good idea to make sure your exterior walls are air sealed. Most homes’ walls are already insulated; however, often air still manages to leak in around electrical outlets, window trim, and other nearly invisible cracks and gaps.

A home energy audit that includes a blower door test will give you a good idea of where you’re losing air as well as where wall insulation is missing or inadequate. Once you’ve discovered these leaks, licensed contractors can easily seal them.

BLOWN-IN INSULATION FOR FINISHED WALLS!

If you realize that wall insulation is a must and your walls are already finished, blown-in insulation is a safe way to add insulation. One method for insulating finished walls involves drilling access holes near the top of the wall and blowing cellulose insulation into empty stud cavities.

DON'T UNDERESTIMATE INSULATED DOORS AND WINDOWS!

High quality windows and doors also provide insulation for exterior walls. Features like Low-E coatings and thermal breaks make them more energy efficient than older windows. Exterior doors that have insulated cores, effective weatherstripping, and an ENERGY STAR® rating have also come a long way from their traditional counterparts.

SPRAY FOAM FOR NEW AND RENOVATED HOMES!

If your home is still being built or undergoing serious renovations, it's easier to properly insulate them. Before wallboard or other finished wall materials are installed, spray foam insulation can be applied and then scraped to fit snugly between wall joists and under wall coverings. The hardened foam provides a permanent thermal and air barrier that never settles, degrades, or loses R-value.

Why Install Spray Foam Insulation?

Air moves in and out of a home through every hole, crack, and crevice. Roughly one-third of air infiltrates through walls, ceilings and floors. Adding an advanced insulation system is necessary to achieve optimal building performance. Spray Foam is that advanced insulation system.

Spray foam insulation can maximize a homeowner's investment by sealing the building envelope to stop conditioned indoor air from escaping and prevent unconditioned air from entering a home.

Air exchange in and out of a home is a leading cause of escalated energy bills. The mechanical systems that heat and cool buildings are continuously operating; reducing extreme temperature variations saves on the overuse of mechanical systems and leads to lower energy bills.
