Energy efficiency (and sno cones!) at the New Orleans Home and Garden Show

Corey Yates at the New Orleans Home and Garden Show explaining energy efficiency
Sunlight Contractors founder Corey Yates getting homeowners informed about energy efficiency.

Sno cones aren’t the only way to beat the heat during humid New Orleans summers anymore, and the New Orleans Home and Garden Show gave forward-thinking New Orleanians an opportunity to explore all of the cutting edge possibilities for keeping cool, sticking to a budget, and staying on friendly terms with the environment. The Sunlight Contractors team was thrilled with the turnout and with the chance to educate homeowners on the hows and whys of energy efficiency.

Amid cooking demonstrations by some of New Orleans’ finest young NOCCA chefs, enlightened urban gardening demonstrations by Vintage Gardens, and exquisite displays by local interior designers, Sunlight Contractors was in the best possible company, and we were blown away by the eagerness of New Orleanians to embrace new and exciting ways to improve the state of their homes and the quality of their lives.

We live in a city full of charming Creole cottages and lumbering antebellum mansions, and while we wouldn’t change it for the world, we’re glad to see that homeowners are opening their eyes to the benefits of upgrading these old beauties with intelligent, efficient technologies like spray foam insulation, solar panels, and replacement windows. We were glad to have the opportunity to assure our new friends that energy efficiency doesn’t come at the cost of a beautiful home, in fact, the contrary is true: you’ll appreciate the beauty of your home all the more when you’re comfortable in it and you’re not throwing money out the window with excessive utility bills.
